Thirkell Consulting Engineers & Building Design were engaged to inspect and report on the historic Grandview Hotel in Bowen and the building envelope’s capacity to withstand damage from tropical cyclones for insurance purposes. Situated on the foreshore of the Bowen Harbour, the hotel was featured in the epic 2008 movie "Australia".
These reports integrate our observations at the property with JCU’s Cyclone Testing Station technical reports and other literature to provide recommendations to improve the buildings resilience to cyclonic weather conditions in a tropical climate known as climate zone 1 in the National Construction Code, Building Code of Australia (NCC BCA).
